As graphics of videogames become more realistic, thanks to technologies such as augmented and virtual reality, the food featured in these games is starting to look more and more edible. Thus, many chefs and foodies are starting to create their own meals inspired by these titles. The most common are desserts, made from cupcakes and cakes that feature famous videogame icons such as Super Mario. We have also encountered food-inspired by popular movies and TV series that have their own games on console, PC, and mobile devices. A particular example was the Game of Thrones recipe featured by Bonappetit.com that shows a Direwolf-cut bread, a tasty pigeon pie, and zesty Sansa’s lemon cakes. There was also food inspired by the post-apocalyptic themed movie, The Hunger Games. Fans of the movie designed meals based on the different districts in the film. Recipes related to burnt nut raisin bread, fish stew, and roasted rabbits are just a few of the common meals you will see in a Hunger Games-inspired food table. Similarly, food has inspired games in different ways, where apps that showcase fruit being thrown in the air and sliced by the finger of a user is a common theme. Even online games that can be accessed via mobile devices have been inspired by food, such as Lucky Larry’s LobsterMania 2 that features a delicious lobster on a Caribbean vacation, which happens to be one of the more popular slot titles hosted on Pocketfruity.com. With food concepts being so popular, and the growing number of “foodies” around the world, it’s no wonder developers are looking at the culinary themes as potential markets to gain momentum in. Additionally, it seems video games have the power to persuade the human mind. Video games with candy advertisements are said to make children eat more sweets, according to a study featured by Tech Times. However, it’s not only advertisement of candies, other ads for junk food such as soda and potato chips, which are said to have a great impact on children’s eating behavior have benefitted from game titles entering the mainstream. So, does that also affect the adult mind when they see gourmet foods being advertised online or in an app? Researchers say it’s “very likely” that adults can be influenced by food ads, as these marketing approaches are meant to grab their attention quickly and activate sensations (i.e feeling hungry) within 15 seconds of seeing the advert. |
